Daughters of Palestine is a project initiated by 6+: a woman’s art collective in collaboration with the Al Feneiq Cultural Center in the Dheisheh Refugee Camp in the West Bank. A group of 20 young women from the camp and the town of Bethlehem participated in a workshop with the 6+ collective acting as mentors. The young women worked together using video, photography, and journal writing. Throughout the workshop, they composed and shared the stories of personal memories. This web project is the result of the participants wanting to share their stories with people across the world.
How to view: When land on the Daughters of Palestine web site, you are first directed to a hand-drawn map of the Dheisheh Refugee Camp that was drawn by the camp residents. You are then invited to “Enter Dheisheh.”
The orange dots on the map mark the locations of the homes of several of the young participants in the workshop. Click on a dot to access a portrait of each participant in front of her home, a personal narrative, and some of the video footage she took exploring the space around her home. Please take your time and scroll across the map to see the individual portraits and hear their narratives.
