Between Two Waters (Entre Dos Aguas)

2011 | Chapter in a Documentary TV series | 28 min
by Javier Limón
SUMMARY

Between Two Waters (Entre Dos Aguas) is a Spanish documentary TV series that reports on music around the world. It aims to reflect the encounter between two cultures: the Mediterranean and the American, and to capture how Spain has converted itself, throughout history, into a cultural “hinge” between the new and the old on the continent; between Occidental music and the ancient sounds of the Near Orient. It records these musical realities from diverse points of view including from musical legends, young musicians with bright futures, acclaimed teachers, and more.

In Episode 6, “Qanun Andino,” Latin grammy award winner and Latin music sensation Javier Limon visits Ramallah to witness Ramzi Aburedwan and his Palestine National Ensemble Orchestra practice and perform. The episode features Ali Amr and Tareq Rantisi, two Palestinians who currently study or recently studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and the challenges they faced studying music under occupation.
